Acrylic - from raw material to windows
Delta Glass, a 100% subsidiary of Polyplastic, with its head office in Tholen, has the task of manufacturing synthetic acrylic. The raw material with the chemical designation methyl methacrylate (MMA) is cast in the form of sheets there. The success of acrylic is due to its excellent transparency, and it is genuine alternative to normal glass.
The starting material is a liquid crude oil product called monomer. This liquid is hardened in a glass mould in a high-power furnace, a process which eliminates all the internal tensions within the raw material. A flexible, totally smooth acrylic sheet with a high level of translucence is produced, known within Polyplastic by the brand name "Roxite".
In order to make windows from this acrylic sheet, it must be reheated and shaped into the required form using special tools. The entire production is subject to the most stringent quality control. All Polyplastic windows satisfy the relevant standards applicable to synthetic glazing in passenger vehicles. The internally developed casting process ensures the best possible visual characteristics, break-resistance, and extraordinary stability.
In the final manufacturing stages for double glazed windows, the inner and outer sheets are permanently bonded together into a durable whole with a carefully prepared adhesive. The entire window system including the accessories such as the display frame and fixing accessories, the aluminium hinges, the rubber seals, etc. together make up the installation as a whole.
